I installed DDream on an hp laptop with win XP professional. I use skystar2 card. Although this combnation works with ProgDVB and I could watch the channels, DDream didnt detect the sat signal at all. It sometimes crashed. The Diesque setup is good. Although I have 4 codecs shown in the video options none of them worked with the video renderer. Those codecs are: Ligos, Bitcontrol 3, DVD express, Null video. The renderers are: Video mixing, VM9, generic, and overlay. No matter what combination I use it is rejected. The media player can play mpeg2 files perfectly with those codecs. What is the problem?

You really have installed an PCI-Card in your laptop ?
Or is it an USB-device like SkyStar USb plus ?
It's neccessary to know this because the driver to install for it depends on the type of recevier.
For SkyStar 2: Best is the WDM driver 4.4.0 - you only have to / need install the files SkyNet.SYS and SkyNET.INF !

For SkyStar USB >>> Use latest BDA-driver from Technisat or Technotrend.
>>> Select DVBDream-interface 'BDA native' !

The USB device is also called a "card" I have skystar2 USB.
The driver I have is version 4.2.0. Other recent drivers dont work with my windows. I have XP with SP1 only. Those new drivers require SP2 which I dont install. I tried to use recent drivers but there was no pic on ProgDVB and they caused blue screens. Are there drivers written by someone other than Technisat? I actually need OLDER versions of drivers not recent.
How about the codecs problem? Is it going to be fixed if I fix the driver problem?

Driver Version 4.2.0 seems to be a little bit old and might cause some probs with DD.
You should use the latest WDM version 4.4.0 - i attached the neccessary files.
Simply copy to windows directory system32 and reboot the machine. (save the org. ones before !)
DD needed a correctly installed driver and it is also neccessary to define the right interface.
For this card (box( with this WDM driver (maybe also 4.2.0) you have to select the device B2C2 - DIRECT.
If driver and interface is not installed / selected correctly, DD won't work and will have probs with the codecs (especially newer version 1.4).
So first try noted things above and then try to scan a satellite.
Any results ?
Best and ever working codecs are from Cyberlink (PowerDVD Version 6 and above) and Intervideo (WinDVD Version 8 and also newest 9).
The prob could depend on what the codec have to decode.... DVB-Transport-Stream is not the same as a Data-Stream from standard MPEG-File !
Also there can be probs when combining Codec-Filters with renderers due to incopatible Pin-Typs (DirectShow).
Only if nothing is marked red in Video-setup, DD will work and has build a runable graph.

NO luck
I installed driver 4.4.0 as you suggested. Still DD doesnt detect the signal from Sat. SkyStar viewer did detect the signal!! Also the driver version that was shown in the list of drivers was 4.3.0 even though it was 4.4.0.
I also installed PowerDVD 6. still no change in behavior. No combination of decoders worked. Actually those codecs dont show at all in the window: Active directshow filter.
I tried to install a previous version of the program in the hope it might be less demanding but it didnt open because it was expired. What sense does it make to make old versions expire?. This is a bizzare behavior by any software develeper....
Does the program require XP with SP2 ? If so this might be the problem because I dont have it...

DD is freeware ! There is nothing to be expired !
Are you really shure you're using DVBDREAM ?
Please also take a look at the DVBDREAM.ORG forum.....

I downloaded version 1.2 from that site DVBDREAM.ORG, installed it and when I tried to run it I got a message: This version is expired. You should install the most recent version. and the program never opened. so how do you explain that?

Version 1.2 is rather old... I havent tested that one because there are better & ewer ones.
Why didn't you try the latest 1.4ip1 from HERE
(org. developer page) ?

I wanted to try an older version because it may not have strict requierments. However, I am willing to try this new version and see what happens.

That link lead me to the same verision that I had already and it didnt work either. I am giving up on that program. sorry.
